Projects
Doran Creek
The Chapter has been working to rehabilitate Doran Creek which flows into Trout Lake in North Bay by removing debris and digging sediment traps.
Much of the creek’s ecosystem was devastated in the 1980’s after a beaver dam washed out leaving the creek bed engulfed with sand.
The creek once supported a healthy amount of brook trout and over the next four or five years the team plans to restore it to its original state. The team began working on the project in June and it is already showing significant signs of improvement.
See before and after pictures here.
This project was in the planning stages for two years before “boots were in the creek.” Special thanks to the Ministry of Natural Resources and all our partners.
Future Projects
Four Mile Creek
This creek is in need of restoration and has been identified as a future project site for the Chapter. The creek is the spawning ground for the only naturally spawning Atlantic Salmon population in Ontario. Potential partners for the project include Canadore College’s Environmental Protection and Compliance students.
