Near North Chapter - Trout Unlimted Canada

History

TUC and the Near North Chapter

TUC was founded in 1972, in response to freshwater issues and challenges across Canada. TUC was based on the model established by Trout Unlimited in the U.S. Our focus on volunteer driven, member based resource conservation and commitment to hands-on activity has been followed ever since.

Over 30 years later, TUC has approximately 4, 000 members in 27 chapters across the country. At the chapter level, members volunteer their time and effort to preserve coldwater habitat within local watersheds. The members interact liberally with people of all ages who then can volunteer to help with any number of local, regional and national initiatives.

TUC's national office is in Calgary, Alberta. Its full-time staff of seven administers the day-to-day business of the entire organization.

TUC Near North Chapter was formed in 2004 out of a need to protect and conserve the beautiful Near North and its watersheds. The chapter consists of approximately 30 members and works with community partners including the Ministry of Natural Resources to continue work on the existing Doran Creek project and plan for future projects.
